Pre-Trip

Prepare for your upcoming trip

We’re excited that you’ll be joining us for a transformative journey in the wilderness with Huts for Vets! To help you make the most of this experience, here’s everything you need to know to prepare for your trip.
Our trips take place in the stunning but often unpredictable backcountry of the Rocky Mountains. Being well-prepared will ensure your comfort and safety throughout the experience.
  • Durable Hiking Boots: Ensure they’re broken in to avoid blisters.
  • Comfortable Backpack: Large enough to hold water, snacks, and personal items for day hikes.
  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Layers are key in mountain environments. Pack moisture-wicking shirts, insulating layers, and waterproof outerwear.
  • Hat & Sunglasses: Protect yourself from the sun at high elevations.
  • Reusable Water Bottle or Hydration System: Staying hydrated is crucial.
  • Personal Medications: Bring enough for the duration of the trip.
  • Optional: Journal for reflection, camera, personal snacks.

We will provide food, shelter, and group equipment so you can focus on the experience.

Our trips involve hiking through varying terrain at high elevations, so arriving in good physical condition will enhance your experience. To help you prepare, we’re offering complimentary health coaching from a certified coach designed to help you achieve your fitness goals and feel your best.
  • Meal Prep Guidance: Tailored to your nutritional needs, ensuring you’re fueling your body for adventure.
  • Fitness Planning: Customized workout plans to build strength and endurance, preparing you for the rigors of mountain hiking.
  • Accountability: Regular check-ins to track your progress and keep you on track in the weeks leading up to your trip.

We want you to make the most of this journey. Showing up in great physical condition increases your chances of a meaningful and successful experience.

Once you’re accepted for a trip, our health coach will reach out to you with details on how to begin your personalized fitness plan. Together, we’ll ensure you’re ready to take on the wilderness with confidence.

This trip is more than a physical adventure—it’s an opportunity for healing, connection, and self-reflection. Here’s how you can mentally prepare:

  • Keep an Open Heart & Mind: Be ready to engage in meaningful conversations, learn from others, and share your own experiences.
  • Reflect on Your Goals: Consider what you hope to gain from this trip—whether it’s peace of mind, deeper connections, or a sense of purpose.
  • Be Present: Embrace the chance to disconnect from everyday distractions and immerse yourself in nature’s tranquility.
You will be meeting us at our Base Camp located near Aspen, CO and we’ll provide specific travel instructions and timing details as your trip approaches. Be sure to arrive on time and let us know if you have any transportation concerns.
